PATIENT PARTNER RESEARCH OPPORTUNITIES

Teen Concussion Recovery Working Group

We are seeking teens with lived experience of concussion and their caregivers for a research working group.

OPPORTUNITY PURPOSE

The MyGuide Concussion -Teen Edition website was created to help teens recover after concussion. The website addresses teen-specific concerns and can be used by teens and their families, as well as by teachers and coaches. Teens with lived experience of concussion, along with their caregivers, are invited to join a virtual working group to review the website and help to develop a research study investigating its acceptability and utility.

WHAT’S INVOLVED

Teens and their caregivers will attend five virtual meetings with GF Strong clinicians and researchers to:

  • Identify important questions to ask study participants about the MyGuide Concussion-Teen Edition website

  • Ensure that study materials are understandable to teens and caregivers

  • Develop a study recruitment plan

  • Generate ideas about how the website can be better designed based on data collected from the study

  • Decide how to share the research findings with the community. To prepare for meetings, patient partners may be asked to review materials (e.g., the existing MyGuide Concussion-Teen Edition website, recruitment flyers, research summaries).

ELIGIBILITY

  • Youth ages 12 to 18 who have experienced a concussion and are at least one-month post-injury

  • Parents and/or legal guardians of a child aged 12 to 18 who has experienced a concussion

  • Caregivers and youth may participate in this opportunity together (e.g., as a caregiver-adolescent pair) or individually

  • Youth and caregivers should be comfortable with computers and technology and able to read and understand English.

  • Open to BC or Yukon residents only

Patient partners will be compensated $25 per 1-hour group meeting (e.g., up to $125). A reference letter can be provided for high school students completing volunteer/career preparation requirements
